The Stud
Located at Murchison, in the heart of the Goulburn Valley wine and thoroughbred breeding region, Isle of Wight Farm shares the exceptional loam soil of Nagambie and it's famous wineries such as Chateau Thabilk and Mitchelltown and renowned studs Sweetenham, Gilgai Farm, Erinvale Thoroughbreds, Limerick Lane and the world famous Darley. Ahead of his time, David has had the foresight to run the farm organically and this policy has not changed over 30 odd years. The young stock are reared on a mixture of native and improved pastures that are periodically maintained through the use of natural minerals with no chemicals used at all. A variety of herbs are encouraged to give the young stock healthy muscle tone and strong bones.
Unlike most studs, David has developed a broodmare band that has been bred from the finest thoroughbred lines crossed with select Holsteiner stallions. Himself a level three classifier and current Chairman of the Holsteiner Horse Association of Australia, David has now formed a broodmare band comprised entirely of mares he has bred himself. Each mare is known and understood as an individual in regards to their temperament, conformation and ability. Knowing them so well enables us to accurately anticipate their progeny when joined with any of our stallions. The stud stands proud off its stock - their generous and friendly temperament, their world-class mechanics and their appealing disposition and conformation. When you purchase an Isle of Wight horse, you can be assured that it is the result of over 30 years of planning and research to create the ultimate performance horse with the attributes of temperament, type, trainability, confirmation, movement and quality paramount.
